Scholarship Description
The Gamma Nu Chapter of Sigma Beta Xi Sorority, Incorporated, is committed to fostering educational opportunities for talented youth in our community. In honor of Dr. Lekonda Rich-Jocelyn’s unwavering dedication to education and service, we proudly present the Faith Walker Scholarship, designed to uplift and support exceptional high school seniors as they embark on their journey toward higher education.

Scholarship Qualifications
Eligibility
Applicants must be high school seniors attending school in one of the following counties for the 2024-2025 academic school year:

Florida: Duval, Clay, St. Johns, Nassau, Baker

Georgia: Camden

Must submit an Official Letter of acceptance to an accredited college/university or technical school on the institution’s letterhead

Must provide high school transcript.

Must submit headshot photo.
Academic Achievement

Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
Community Involvement

Demonstrated commitment to service, leadership, and extracurricular activities
Personal Essay

Applicants must submit a 500-word minimum essay

Letters of Recommendation

Two letters of recommendation from individuals not related to you (i.e., Educators, Employees, Clergy, Supervisors of Volunteer Programs, mentors, or community leaders and High School Counselors) who can attest to the applicant’s character, leadership, and commitment to service. Both letters must be hand-signed by the submitter.

To ensure your candidacy is considered, you and your parent or guardian must complete, sign, and submit the scholarship application and media waiver, which permits using your likeness and achievements in promotional materials.
Review Process

A committee from the Gamma Nu Chapter will carefully review all applications.

Finalists may be invited to an interview as part of the selection process.

​The scholarship winner will be announced on or before May 16, 2025. The judges' decision will be final. The award will be disbursed to the winner upon receiving written verification from an accredited institution of higher education confirming that the individual has enrolled. A current class schedule may be required to verify enrollment.

Use of Funds

Scholarship funds will be distributed directly to the recipient for tuition, books, or other educational expenses.

To remain valid, all awards must be claimed within 18 months of the announcement date. The Sorority will publish the names and images of the winners on its website and social media pages.

It is with profound gratitude and reverence that we, the sisters of Soror Dr. Lekonda Rich-Jocelyn, honor her unshakable faith, dedication, and service. On August 31, 2017, our chain was broken as she transitioned into the next realm, but we will forever cherish her spirit and uphold her legacy.

As an educator, mentor, and trailblazer, Dr. Rich-Jocelyn believed in the transformative power of education. She instilled hope in those she taught and provided unwavering support to the youth she guided.
